Session 5

Introductory Remarks

The chapters that we consider for this session move us towards the Intuitionist/Pluralist end of the continuum presented in Figure 3.1 These approaches are more process/involvement/empowerment oriented than the earlier approaches which focused on attainment of intended outcomes. This area is growing and currently many more Program Evaluation studies are approached in a more qualitative manner.

Required Readings and Assignments

The required reading for Session Five consists of Chapters 7, 8 and 9 of the Fitzpatrick, Sanders and Worthen text.

The assignment for Session Five is to follow the instructions given in the Chapter/Readings Review assignment. The deadline date is May 22, 2009.

Looking to the Future

On May 27, 2009 the first Related Article Review/Discussion Question is due. This assignment has you choosing either three discussion questions to complete or three refereed journal articles to review. You should be making your decision about whether you will choose the discussion questions or the article reviews. Once you have made that decision you should begin working on that assignment.
